I hate sleeves. I've spent all day trying to get this weird poof out, but it dosen't want to work.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] madamekat  and I went to jomar on Saturday to look for some more of that purple velvet. Unfortunatly they were all out.  Yesterday I went to the Jomar in Norristown, and they didn't have it either.  So today I went to Joanns where I did find some cording that could work for the front of my dress.  I'll go play with that some other time.  While I was there, I saw that Blue Moon beads has a new line out called Madame Delphine, which has some pretty victorian stuff like cameos and lockets and charms.  I wish I made jewlery, or had time to learn.  Anyway... back to the sleeves!

Happy New Year! Hope 2010 is going well for everyone. It feels like ages since I picked up a needle. Part of that has to do with being too busy, and the other part is lack of motivation. Well, between Young Victoria, Cranford on Masterpiece Theater, and Poe talk, I'm really hankering for an 1840's dress. Today at Jomar I managed to find these Both are some sort of cotton blend I found in the $1 section. They're not nearly as shiny as they look in the photo. The one was a deep blue in the store, but looks greenish at home. Guess lighting makes all the difference. I'm thinking of something along the lines of these, but I can't seem to get better shots of the dresses. http://www.costumersguide.com/victoria/bluegold1.jpg http://www.costumersguide.com/victoria/plaid1.jpg

After getting away for a while, I'm ready to go back to work.  I think my next project will be this dress from Daniel Deronda

I have some blue linen  in the stash that I'm going to use for the skirt.  I wanted some orange/coral linen for the top, ideally with out having to dye it myself.   So I went up to Jomars to see what they had. No linen, but right next to the linen section was this lovely silk in the perfect color. It was like fate, and only 5 bucks a yard.  I bought it, thinking that it had to be at least part some poly or something. But the burn test showed nothing synthetic!!

The Truly Victorian patterns should be here in the next few days so I can get started.

Some times its hard being a moderate.  I have friends on both sides of the spectrum, and last night one wanted to go out and celebrate while the other wanted to pack for Canada.( Really, if you hate big gov. that much, Canada is not the place for you). I just wanted to go to bed, it had been a long night covering the election at the station.  It was funny, I went to go shoot some footage of voting places and the first one was dead.  I thought that was weird, all over the country there is record voting except in central PA. Oh well.  Then we went to another, and the line was wrapped around the building. Perfect.  I guess people had been standing there for so long that their vision was going,  and didn't see the camera or media pass because one guy yelled at me for cutting in line when I went to go talk to the judge, and another old man that worked there offered to get me to the front of the line so I could vote then winked at me.  Still not sure if I think that was cute or creepy.
I am happy Obama won, but I don't think McCain would have made a bad president eiter, as long as he stayed alive.  In my life, the parties have alernated the presidency. Bush, Clinton, Bush and now Obama.  For some reason, that has always felt right.  This country needs change every couple of years, so that everyone's voice is heard.  The conservatives had it, now it's the liberals time.  It all balances out, which is what this country is about.

THat should be it on politics for a while. On another note, I finaly got my fabric samples in for my 1730's dress.  But since I ordered them I have had so many ideas, I'm not sure what I want to make or if I even want it blue any more. Decisions, decisions.  I need to decide soon.
