Real world clothes

blackcat452I've been shopping for a few weeks for a dress for a wedding. But I can't find anything that I like. I think I want to try to make one. And since rennisance fabric is having a sale, I'm taking that as a sign. I've never made modern clothes before. Any advice? Patterns to try?
